Grind beyond grind, Hate Plow is a band well known to fans of Malevolent Creation as it is comprised of Dave Culross (drums), Phil Fasciana and Rob Barrett (guitar). Rounding out the line-up is Tim Scott (bass) and Kyle Symons (vocals). Hate Plow's second album, The Only Law Is Survival, astonishes the listener while pulverizing its peers. Towards the end of the disc there is a song entitled, 'Incarcerated (Intent To Sell)'. Based on a highly memorable and certainly unpleasant experience, Kyle tells the tale that inspired this particularly brutal track.

"Yes that's a very true story unfortunately. This starts off; we were in Arizona on the Malevolent tour. They were touring with Jungle Rot and the Malevolent RV broke down. I was the only extra person. I was selling shirts, helping them set up shit, whatever. They had to go onto the next show so I said I would stick around for a couple of days and meet them out in California. The fucking RV had parts from like 1970 and nobody could fix it. Next thing you know it's two weeks later and I'm still there. I'm sitting in a hotel; I'm losing my mind because I don't know anybody out there. I'm just watching TV non-stop, there's like six channels. There's nothing in Arizona, nothing. I didn't have enough money to catch a thirty-dollar cab ride to go into the city. So I just stayed in the hotel room, finally the fucking RV was fixed. I drive it out of Tucson; it breaks down seventy miles later. I stay there overnight, they fix it."

So the problem's solved right? Don't bet on it, the nightmare has only just begun. "I go meet up with Malevolent in Oklahoma City. It was a nineteen-hour straight drive; I just ganged up on the coffee. It was horrible, I was hallucinating. When I pull up to Oklahoma City I realize that a certain member in the band had scored some really good shit; I think it was from Canada actually. We had some weed in the car and in Arkansas they'll pull you over if you have long hair. I finally got to get some sleep and the bass player of Malevolent was driving. He's so soft-spoken he sounds like he's high. When they pulled him over, he's got long hair and they automatically think he's fucked up. The cops asked him if they could search the RV and he said yeah. So they search the RV, ten minutes later they find the bag. It was about two ounces of weed. I don't consider weed a drug but unfortunately the law does. We had to spend the next four days in Lonoke County Jail."

Out of the RV and into the squad car, the story continues. "It could have been worse; we were in a holding cell with this one dude who beat the shit out of a cop. He had been in there for a year. He let us know who to contact if we wanted cigarettes. Phil snuck in a whole shitload of change in his sock which he wasn't supposed to do. So he was supporting us with our fifty-cent bag of Cheetos. We finally got out and made our way up to Michigan and completed the tour. I haven't really heard anything else about it. I have absolutely no idea what's going on; I could be wanted in Arkansas right now. I don't have the money to pay for legal bills right now. It's not my concern. That was my first arrest ever. I've never been in handcuffs before in my life. It was a shame but fucking shit happens."

So will Hate Plow avoid Arkansas on the next tour? "Fuckin' Hell yeah!" is the response from Symons. "It's not worth it at all. I'd rather drive an extra seven hours than sit in a jail for four days." It seems they're not the only band to run into trouble with the Arkansas State Police. "Cephalic Carnage got busted there too," says Kyle. "I think they wrote a song about it on their latest record as well. The band Divine Empire got pulled over there also but they didn't get busted with anything, they hid it well. They were deflating the tires, taking out the gas tank, checking everything. They wanted to bust them but they shoved it as far down in their pants as they could and that's the one place the cops didn't fucking check. They got away."
