Hot, Hot, Hot! BraveWords Gets Up Close N’ Personal With The 70000 Tons Of Metal Pool Girls!

What could be better than seeing some of your favourite bands in the middle of the Caribbean? The sights of course! And I don’t mean the gorgeous locales, the flowing surf and radiating sun. I’m talking about the 70000 Tons Pool Girls! The eye-candy of the sea and the icing on the cake as you stroll around the floating mecca of heavy metal!

BraveWords caught up with the lovely 70000 Tons Pool Girls Sam and Kim to find out about the gig!

BraveWords: How long have you been a 70K Pool Girl on the greatest floating metal concert on the planet?

Sam: “I was recruited in 2012 and have been a dedicated Pool Girl ever since.”

Kim: “This is my first year!”

BraveWords: Why be a 70K Pool Girl?

Sam: “70000TONS OF METAL has been a life changing experience for me and having the opportunity to promote The World’s Biggest Heavy Metal Cruise and share my passion with fellow metalheads is a dream come true.”

Kim: “I like it because I get a chance to be the face of the most amazing experience for metalheads out there, and spread the word about the cruise!"

BraveWords: Tell us what it took to be a 70K Pool Girl? Talk about your assets!

Sam: “My absolute love for 70000TONS OF METAL and my activity within the metal community made me a candidate for the Pool Girl team. I am also bilingual (English and French), personable and a die-hard metalhead.”

Kim: “I have to be able to converse about all sorts of metal, speak various foreign languages (though I am only fluent in German and English), and be confident and outgoing around people.  I also have to be in shape to be able to look good in those shorts!"

BraveWords: What are the best things about being a 70K Pool Girl?

Sam: “Promoting for something that you love, meeting metalheads around the world, traveling, interviewing bands, creating content for fellow cruisers and having the opportunity to work with incredible and inspiring women.”

Kim: “The perks are great, we get to be a part of the 70k team, travel, speak to a wide variety of metalheads worldwide, interview bands, wear sexy metal gear from Kylla Custom Rock Wear, and of course... the cruise!"

BraveWords: Would you consider the 70K Pool Girls a certain metal sorority? Why?

Sam: “I have definitely built some life-long friendships with the women on the Pool Girl team, though I wouldn’t consider the Pool Girls to be a sorority. We are a supportive team of women, friends and co-workers… you also don’t have to pay to get in!”

Kim: “It's certainly a sisterhood, after spending time with the pool girls on the bus this summer at the festivals we worked, I definitely felt a bond with all of them! I wouldn't say we are a sorority though, because there is no hazing, no snooty cocktail mixers, and we don't listen to Dave Matthews Band or wear sweater sets and pearls."

BraveWords: Talk about your role as a 70K Pool Girl as it’s more than just ship duties.

Sam: “The Pool Girls are ambassadors of 70000 Tons Of Metal. We work individually in our respective cities as a street team, acting as spokesmodels throughout the year. We are also a media team, interviewing bands and fellow cruisers to provide fun and entertaining media while we all wait (im)patiently for the next 70000 Tons Of Metal.”

Kim: “It's basically like being a spokesmodel- we have to have poise, wit, beauty, and knowledge.  That and be able to handle ourselves in the music industry environment as well as have our sea legs about us in heels."

BraveWords: Why would a heavy metal fan want to be on 70K?

Sam: “Imagine waking up in the morning and having your coffee in the Caribbean sun while watching a heavy metal band on the open seas. There are also no VIP areas, artists and fans are on the same level, hanging out and partying until dawn! An international community of metalheads, 60 bands, free food, your own bed, hot tubs and bars that never close.”

Kim: “Let me put it to you like this- you get to sit in a hot tub on a ship in the middle of the Caribbean and watch bands like Cannibal Corpse and Venom while people bring you cocktails.  Be surrounded by awesome and sexy metalheads around the world on a vacation in Paradise, get drunk with your favorite bands, and then watch them sing terrible karaoke. Problem?"

BraveWords: Name three bands that have ruled on 70K?

Sam: “Umm… all of them? Haha! Blind Guardian, Exodus, 3 Inches Of Blood.”

Kim: “Carcass, Satyricon, Death Angel"

BraveWords: Name three things that rule on 70K?

Sam: “The cruisers, the bands, the atmosphere.”

Kim: “Beer, Beer, Beer"

BraveWords: What would you to say to someone that said “chicks don’t belong in the pit”

Sam: “See you in the pit!”

Kim: “I'd probably just body-slam them."
