IHSAHN Talks EMPEROR's In The Nightside Eclipse 20th Anniversary Celebrations - “We All Felt Very Privileged”

BraveWords caught up with legendary Emperor frontman Ihsahn at this year’s Heavy Montréal, which was held from August 7th through 9th at Parc Jean-Drapeau. We talked about his return to Canada, continued work on the follow-up to 2013’s Das Seelenbrechen and the highly successful In The Nightside Eclipse celebrations.

“We decided early to keep it low scale,” says Ihsahn regarding last year’s 20th anniversary shows where they performed the band’s 1994 classic debut in its entirety. “Keep it short and sweet and do the shows we really felt that we needed to do. It’s pretty obvious why we didn’t come to America, for those that know the band and our history, on the practical side of things. All and all, a fantastic experience, we all felt very privileged. In my situation, I’ve been playing more live with my solo stuff, but to be able to do some like something like that and then come back to my own project, I feel very privileged to do both. And just getting Faust back on the drums, and doing that entire album, something different than we did in 2006 and 2007. We were excited, the audience seemed to be excited, everybody was getting along.”
