IRON MAIDEN's BRUCE DICKINSON Talks Trooper 666, Cancer, Loss Of Taste Buds - “We Delayed The Announcement Until I Finished My Last Radiation Session”

Legendary Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson stopped by Toronto recently to promote the band’s long-awaited new album, The Book Of Souls, which is currently storming the charts around the world. In part three of our chat, Dickinson chats about his brew Trooper and the next next stage, Trooper 666, along with an update on his cancer scare that shocked the music community.

“We discussed the concept of doing a hybrid; almost like a Belgian ale but with the DNA of an English ale,” the singer explains about the next stage of Trooper beer. “Effectively what we’ve done is upped the alcohol content to 6.6% and put it in a smaller bottle. And because the alcohol content has gone up, it changes the balance of the beer. It tastes great, I was really knocked out. But because of the chemo in the cancer treatment, my taste buds were annihilated. I lost all sense of taste completely…”

The jack-of-all-trades singer continues to recover from tongue cancer and recalls keeping the disease private until the diagnosis was positive. But the entire metal world was aghast!

“I had kind of an idea that I was going to happen,” Dickinson continues. “We delayed the announcement until I finished my last radiation session.”
