What an incredible string of bands! Many made sure to arrive at the blacktopped infield by 11:30 AM, to see upcoming Swedish hard rockers Screamer. They were followed by countrymen RAM. If the former is akin to Thin Lizzy, then the latter is Judas Priest. One of Metal Tim's favorites, Flotsam & Jetsam were there. Armored Saint turned in the performance of the day, if not the weekend: belting out the hits, but also going deep, offering some songs not heard in ages! They were on fire.

Good to see old BraveWords' buddie Leif Edling, back with Candlemass. Return of original singer Johan Längqvist seems to have invigorated the boys (if that's possible in doom metal). Mike Howe was all over the stage, during Metal Church's time slot. Another set jammed with fan favorites. Speaking of well-known anthems, the crowd did much of the singing for ZP Theart (ex-Dragonforce/ex-Tank) during Skid Row's video-era filled repertoire. By dark contrast (pun intended) Tribulation offered a heavily incense and fog layered spectacle, in the hall and headliner Avantasia saw Tobias Sammet's cavalcade of singers play around a landscape seemingly sculpted with Nightmare Before Christmas in mind. Here's some visual evidence. A full report on Bang Your Head 2019, start-to-finish, will be posted soon.
