Concord, California-based metallers VILE check in with the following update from guitarist/founding member Colin Davis:

"Many of you have been following my news regarding the trials and tribulations of the business end of Vile. We have had a very ambiguous relationship with labels and music business people for our entire career. There seems to be a general theme here though. And that is that Vile seems destined to ultimately reject the common way of doing business in this industry. We have been grass roots from the very beginning and although labels like Listenable and Unique Leader have helped to boost our popularity to a degree, the large majority of it has come from the plain fact that we make quality and original music and word of mouth has come back to help us.

And now as we enter 2009 and begin ramping up for the recording and release process for the new album, we find ourselves without a label for the first time in eight years, and rather turned off by the entire label situation as a whole.

I always keep all windows of opportunity open and will continue to do so, but as we stand now, we are seriously considering a self release for this new album. Music is now an online phenomenon to a very large degree and I feel that an online approach to promotion will get us as far or even further than the old ways of doing business.

So....I am looking for some help! I know that there are thousands of you out there who are familiar with the many metal sites and blogs and that many of you could very easily excel at online promotion if you decided to do so. And many of you would be willing to help out for free, and that would be gracious.

But what I really need is a few dedicated individuals who are confident, optimistic and positive to do the rounds online and to use their natural skills and talents to get the word out regarding our new release and to promote news regarding the progress of the recording from time to time.

In return, you would be provided with free merch and if you are in a band, I will return the favour by providing free recording, mixing and mastering services. I am a producer of metal music as many of you know. You will also be able to hear the new music before it is released and can then offer opinions and information coming from actual listening experience.

If you find that you excel in the web promotion trade, you can then take this experience and use it in other places. The future of the record label business is fast becoming an online phenomenon and those of you that can do this well will surely have much opportunity awaiting you.
