Spinefarm Records US has issued the following update on Finnish black metallers BEHERIT:

The mighty Beherit returns with their new album Engram, due out in the USA on June 16th.

The black star of Finland, Beherit (the Syriac name for Satan) was formed in 1989 by three young musicians from Rovaniemi, Finland: vocalist and guitarist Nuclear Holocausto Vengeance, bassist Daemon Fornication and drummer Sodomatic Slaughter. The band released three demos the following year: Seventh Blasphemy, Morbid Rehearsals and Demonomancy. Their live show quickly gathered a legendary reputation, fueled with an aggression that few could top and a visual component that included pig and goat heads onstage.

Beherit's best-known and most influential album, Drawing Down The Moon, released in 1993, was considered highly experimental within the black metal scene: the band used whispers and space-like electronic sounds to strengthen its hypnotic atmosphere. Despite it's success, Drawing Down The Moon was to remain the band's last black metal release, as they split up the next year.

It just wasn't in the cards that Beherit would entirely cease to exist. Combining the venomous vitriol and vehemence of the band's early years, the moodier and doomier electric soulscapes of Holocausto's ambient droning and the continued hatred for all mankind, 2009's grand worldwide comeback, Engram, sees the black star rise once more, reinforced with personnel renewed and maligned intentions of old.

Engram tracklisting: 'Axiom Heroine', 'Destroyer Of Thousand Worlds', 'All In Satan', 'Pagan Moon', 'Pimeyden Henki', 'Suck My Blood', 'Demon Advance'.
