Rocklahoma, the multi-day destination camping rock festival, is taking place this weekend at Catch The Fever Festival Grounds in Pryor, OK. A special BraveWords.com report by Erik Tweedy can be read below:
Rocklahoma Day One:
GODSMACK and THREE DAYS GRACE lead the way as the nu-breed hard rock era has officially taken over Rocklahoma. Pulling songs from their entire catalog, Sully Erna and the boys put on a hard charging performance that brought the fans back to Rocklahoma. After suffering dismal ticket sales in 2009, Rocklahoma rolled the dice by partnering with one of the largest concert management companies in the world, AEG, and changing up their format from the '80s hair/metal they have been known for worldwide. This year’s line-up features many of today’s top hard rock and nu-metal bands. As the sun was setting, fan favorites BUCKCHERRY and Three Days Grace had the crowd on their feet and their fists in the air as they stormed through plenty of radio hits that even the most ardent 80s hair/metal fan could recognize. The official start of Rocklahoma was kicked off on the main stage by sophomore bands ADELITA’S WAY and SAVING ABEL. Adelita’s Way put on an aggressive and strong performance that paved the way for the more radio friendly Saving Abel who were the surprise band of the day. The change in format seems to have worked so far for the Rocklahoma team as it was very noticeable that ticket sales have increased.
Rocklahoma Day Two:
After a three year hiatus and a cancelled performance at Rocklahoma in 2008, CINDERELLA hit the stage with ‘Second Wind’ and stormed through some of the most recognizable songs from the '80s hair band era. Cinderella gave the crowd everything they wanted and those dedicated fans that have enjoyed the past three years at Rocklahoma couldn’t have been happier. Tom Keifer’s voice was terrific and the band sounded fresh and tight. After shedding the '80s heritage on day 1 in favor of the nu-breed, Rocklahoma dished out a line-up that crossed over multiple decades that included headliners ZZ TOP, SALIVA and newcomers BURN HALO. The bearded ones from Texas, pulled in one of the largest crowds in Rocklahoma’s short four year history. Drawing from a catalogue of music over 40 years in the making, ZZ Top had the fans on their feet and put a smile on everyone’s face. 'Click Click Boom' could be heard for miles around as Saliva threw the rock fans into a frenzy during the hottest part of the day. Saliva has quietly put together a resume that includes several of today’s top active rock radio hits including 'Ladies And Gentleman', 'Your Disease', 'Always' and the aforementioned 'Click Click Boom'. Day 2 at Rocklahoma provided a little something for everyone that also included a few surprises on the side stages. THE NIGEL DUPREE BAND and SHAMAN’S HARVEST put on blistering sets at the Hard Rock Hotel sponsored side stage and had more people in attendance than any side stage bands I can remember seeing the past 3 years. The gates open today at 12:30PM for Day 3 at Rocklahoma 2010 and it is expected to be a busy one as TESLA headlines the main-stage with CHEVELLE, THEORY OF A DEADMAN, SEVENDUST AND ARANDA.
