Vocalist SARAH JEZEBEL DEVA's May 19th show in Leeds, UK at Uni has been cancelled. She and her band have issued the following statement:

"This concerns those who bought tickets for the Leeds Uni show on May 19th. To fans AND bands, we refuse point blank to make excuses for people or to lie to our fanbase with lines such as 'Due to unforeseen circumstances blah blah is cancelled' crap. Musicians get s**t for lying to protect people and s**t for telling the truth, so, let's take the truth option!

Leeds is cancelled. We know the support acts did a lot to sell tickets, we know there were a fair few ticket sales a few weeks back but the promoter has decided to cancel all his shows, including ours, screwing us royally and all other bands. The show was originally at The Cockpit, a small venue, cheap to hire, holding a 100 or so people, he decided to move the show, something we didn't know about, to a larger capacity venue of 450 with a room rental fee close to three times more than The Cockpit. No way we would have filled this place, and I guess after booking this place, he soon realized he wouldn't be able to pay the bill at the end of the night!

People who label themselves 'promoters' think they can get rich off of bands, and when it doesn't go according to plan, cancel the gig and run, without giving a thought to all the months of planning bands, record comp, mags, booking agents and so on have put into the tour. These kind of promoters, and we have had a few, are normally young, very young with NO experience. They give the REAL promoters a VERY bad name. These promoters are helping to limed the amount of bands that can actually tour, making it extremely hard for bands to play the areas you want them to and its ALL because of ££££/$$$$. They need to put music before money. We had a small fee, enough to cover our travel expenses, nothing more, no profit!

So while we are left to pick up the pieces, we want ALL fans to know that this has nothing to do with us, Leeds Uni, our booking agent or the support acts. We hope people do get their money back and we have really tried to find another place to play in Leeds but its just too short notice. Do not lose faith in your favorite bands when they have to cancel a show because most of the time, it simply is NOT their fault.
