GAMMA RAY Frontman Kai Hansen On UNISONIC - "Maybe The Next Record Can Be Faster"
March 15, 2013, 11 years ago
GAMMA RAY frontman Kai Hansen recently spoke with Greece-based Rock Overdose, and during the interview (found here) he discussed his other band, UNISONIC, which sees him teaming up with former HELLOWEEN bandmate Michael Kiske.
On the rumor that the next Unisonic album might be heavier:
Kai - "Yes, maybe. During the pre-production and tour, Michael opened his mind to the heavier side of music, which is very good. He lost all his scruples on metal music. He admitted that the metal is not a bad thing. He had a rather close-minded way of thinking with this in the past, but now everything has returned to the well and we had many great experiences on tour. I am very curious about how this will turn out."
On Kiske saying he has no problem with another song in the direction of Helloween's 'March of Time':
Kai - "Yes, he basically just said this. When we started writing the first songs of Unisonic, he told me that he doesn’t want speed metal songs, so maybe this album was the heaviest possible way. With that being said, maybe the next record can be faster."
Gamma Ray's new EP, Master Of Confusion, was released on March 15th via earMUSIC. About the EP, Kai states: "We got two brand new songs that we actually wrote for the upcoming album, but since we saw that it would be kind of impossible to make it for a full length album towards the tour, we said 'Well, we don't want to go on tour naked. We want people to listen to some new stuff, at least something,' so we said, 'Let's take two songs which are in some way representative for the album and record them, and add up two cover versions plus some live stuff.'"

A teaser for the new EP, Master Of Confusion, can be found below:
The two new tracks on the EP, ‘Master Of Confusion’ and ‘Empire Of The Undead’, are the first two new studio songs by Gamma Ray to be released after the successful studio album To The Metal!, which brought the band to the highest positions in the charts worldwide.
With its 60 minutes of pure and raw Gamma Ray, Master Of Confusion is a great way to wait for the new album, scheduled for the end of 2013. Gamma Ray always takes its music and the relationship with their fans very seriously, and the band wanted this release to be priced as a mid price mini-album.
In addition to the brand new studio song, 'Master Of Confusion' features a second new studio track: ‘Empire Of The Undead’, showing the heavier side of the band, with an explosion of energy and pure Gamma Ray sound at its best. The release is not free from tasty rarities: a brand new studio cover versions of British glam rock band SWEET (‘Lost Angels’ - “the reason I have joined a band many years ago”, stated Hansen) and a hidden treasure of NWOBHM (‘Death Or Glory’ by HOLOCAUST).
Master Of Confusion is rounded off with six live versions (‘The Spirit,’ ‘Wings Of Destiny,’ ‘Farewell,’ ‘Gamma Ray,’ ‘Time To Break Free’ and ‘Insurrection’ recorded in Bochum) that were already included on the Blu-ray Live – Skeletons and Majesties but were not featured on the CD release (which included the show recorded in Pratteln).
