Longtime Mississippi-area disc jockey, music producer and Grammy-nominated songwriter Scott Mateer, 46, died Sunday (December 17th) morning at his home in Flowood. Mateer worked at several Jackson radio stations in the 1980s and ’90s, co-wrote Lorrie Morgan's first major hit, Dear Me, and performed a voice-over (as TV The Preacher) on the QUEENSRŸCHE album Operation: Mindcrime.

He also served as a Hinds County Sheriff’s deputy for six years until 2005.

“He was one of the most talented people I have ever, ever met,” said his widow Shari Schneider, 47. “He had a brilliant mind and he had a huge heart.”

Schneider said she did not know what caused Mateer’s death, but said he suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure.
