MEGADETH Guitarist GLEN DROVER - "You Can't Really Cheat The Fans; They Know When It's Bullshit Or Not"

ChartAttack.com recently caught up with MEGADETH guitarist Glen Drover. The following is an excerpt from the story:
Megadeth Propelled By Canadian Shreddin'
For Ottawa-born Glen Drover, joining Megadeth in 2004 not only meant the chance to tour with a band he grew up listening to, but an opportunity to help reshape the future of what they would sound like.
And bringing his brother Shawn Drover into the mix as Megadeth's new drummer made the experience all the more special. "It was definitely a magical moment, that's for sure," says the guitarist.
"That whole period was definitely a high point in my career for sure. It was a very exciting time to join a band that you grew up listening to and, once I joined the band, starting to get into rehearsals, learning that we all get along, and it works well musically — all these cool things made it that much more exciting."While Drover started out as a touring guitarist, the past three years have earned him Megadeth's lead guitarist title. He co-wrote music with band founder Dave Mustaine for the band's 11th studio album, United Abominations, which was released in May.
United Abominations is another characteristically political album from Megadeth, with lyrics and music written primarily by Mustaine. And while Megadeth are still Mustaine's band, Drover says his own love for the group's early '80s thrash roots have definitely been reflected on the new album.
"I think there is a lot of influence that we brought in, me and Shawn in particular, to really kind of revisit and bring back those elements of the older albums as well as keeping with the more current sound that the band has had in the last few years. But I think that's a big part of the band because a lot of people want to hear all that old stuff, you know, that old style — a lot of solos, more ripping music. Albums like Peace Sells and So Far, So Good, So What? are what we grew up with, and for me that's Megadeth. I love all the albums, but the earlier albums are very special to us and that's definitely the influence we bring to the band."Drover is credited for co-writing "Never Walk Alone... A Call to Arms" with Mustaine, and he's continually working on new riffs and material for the future. Though he's become more involved in the songwriting process, for now he's focusing on his duty as a live performer as the band tours the U.S. in support of United Abominations.
"We all play together very well," says Drover. "It's a great atmosphere because it's genuine. We're not doing it for money, we're not doing it for the wrong reasons. It's because of the love of music of this band and because we respect and get along with each other so well. And that really does come across live, I think. You can't really cheat the fans. They know when it's bullshit or not."Go to this location for the complete story.
