Rock'n'Roll Outlaw is a feature length documentary filmed 'on-the-road' with Australian rock band Rose Tattoo. Revealing rare private collections of photographs, this film is a fascinating insight into the history of the worldwide 'Oz Rock' phenomenon. Featuring founding members Pete Wells, Angry Anderson, Ian Rilen, Mick Cocks and Geordie Leach, this film revisits the social attitudes of the 1970s with zine clippings and press reviews, as we register the shock created by Rose Tattoo's unprecedented impact as the tattooed rock band. The film opens with Rose Tattoo members reminiscing about these tough first few years of gigs and life on the road together. Their memories bring back intense feelings - the ebb and flow of friendship and friction that continued for Rose Tattoo over the next thirty years.

Rock'n'Roll Outlaw charts Rose Tattoo's transformation >from defiant youth - touring Europe and the U.S. in the 1980s - to dissident maturity in the 21st century following a remarkable journey. As they revisit the Australian and international stage with renewed enthusiasm, they tell of their satisfaction at playing to audiences now spanning two generations of fans across the globe. Rock'n'Roll Outlaw follows Rose Tattoo's story with an intimate view of the internal relations of the band and their focus on the music inhabiting the rhythm and the volume, nailing every gig by making each venue their own as they carry on playing their notoriously loud and thumping Australian rock'n'roll music.

Rock'n'Roll Outlaw is a unique cultural insight into the heart and soul of this tradition of the Australian rock band, who continue through the power of their music to move an expanding fan base to the pleasures of live rock'n'roll music. Throughout the film, singer Angry Anderson conducts his interview from the couch in a Sydney tattoo parlour, where fellow band member and slide-guitarist Pete Wells, inscribes his leg with a new tattoo. These old friends share a wry sense of humour, as they recall some of their experiences of thirty years, treading the boards across the world. They improvise a sometimes jovial, sometimes narky and often thoughtful scenario together throughout the film. The act of tattooing brings an even deeper significance in the end of the story, as is revealed that the tattooist - Rose Tattoo's slide guitarist Pete Wells - died shortly after filming. His death followed tragically a few months later by fellow band-mate Ian Rilen makes this documentary irreplaceable. It is an elegy to them.
