BW&BK Exclusive: NEVERMORE Frontman WARREL DANE’s Forthcoming Solo Album “Very Different From Anything He’s Done Before”

BW&BK; recently caught up with ex-SOILWORK guitarist-turned-producer Peter Wichers. One topic of discussion was the upcoming solo album from NEVERMORE frontman Warrel Dane:
“I’m tracking guitars for it right now, and I’m almost done with them,” Wichers reveals. “Warrel’s due to come in to record his vocals in a week or two, and hopefully the album will be done in October. I’ve been writing with him, and he wanted me to record and produce everything. I didn’t write every song with him because I didn’t really have time, and I think it’s going to be a great record. You can definitely tell that it’s my songwriting, but I scaled down the guitar parts a little because it’s a solo album for Warrel. I didn’t want it to sound like a Soilwork or Nevermore record where I was fighting for attention.”“He does some really different stuff. He’s actually a baritone, for example, which is kind of funny when you think about how he sings on a Nevermore record, but he can’t use that voice in Nevermore because you wouldn’t be able to hear him. He’s doing all kinds of different vocal things on this. And there are a couple songs where he’s singing really low. Everything is shaped so that Warrel is in focus at all times.”
“I think people are going to love the record because Warrel is getting all the space he needs. There’s one song where there’s one clean guitar in the middle, but that’s it. He fills everything else up with different harmonies and stuff like that. It’s very different from anything he’s done before.”
