THRESHOLD Keyboardist RICHARD WEST - "We’ll Decide What Happens Next At The End Of The Year"
October 31, 2007, 17 years ago
ProgPower UK recently caught up with THRESHOLD keyboardist Richard West. The following is an excerpt from the story:
On latest album, Dead Reckoning:
"It’s going really well, and we’re really happy with it. It’s been a really fun album to tour with, although it’s obviously a bit weird to tour with a different singer, but looking back at our history I think we’ve done that before, so we’re used to it! And it was kind of a fun challenge, because a lot of the songs weren’t written for Damian (Wilson) but he’s just taken them and made them his own and put his own personality into them. And it’s actually more fun than touring with Mac in that there’s a new twist on the songs; sometimes when we’re touring, you know, having done the whole writing/production/promotion thing and then touring the same songs you can get a bit bored of them, just because you’re over-familiar with them. So to go out and put a new twist on them is really nice.”
On stand-in vocalist Damian Wilson joining the band full time:
"Well, we decided back then that all we’d do is see out the twenty dates that we had scheduled. We just wanted to fulfil our obligations; we didn’t want to drop anybody in it. We’d worked very hard to get that far, people had bought tickets, so we thought we’d fulfil all of those obligations and then we’ll decide at the end of the year. We’re rounding things off playing with WITHIN TEMPTATION in Holland, in their home country where they’re always #1. It’s 8,000 people and it’s already sold out, so that’s a nice way to end the year. And they’re a great band, you know. We played with them at Earthshaker Festival and got to know them there, and I think that’s why they’ve asked us. They’ve had so many bands approach them saying, ‘Can we come and support you, we’ll pay you thousands’ and they said, ‘No, we want Threshold.’ Which is nice. But anyway, so here we are and we’re still in the position that we’ll decide what happens next at the end of the year. We could make a decision now but we might change our minds. So we’ve decided not to decide We haven’t got the faintest, I’m afraid – as is always the way with Threshold!”
