According to Dean Shalhoup from Nashuatelegraph.com, Creators of the Brad Delp Foundation, named in honor of the late lead singer for the bands BOSTON and BEATLEJUICE, has awarded its initial grant of $15,000 to the nonprofit John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, according to foundation director Bill Faulkner.

Delp died nearly a year ago in his Atkinson home. His daughter, Jenna, presented the award at the recent winter conference of NAMM, an international music products group formerly known as National Association of Music Merchants. The event was held in Anaheim, Calif.

"This seems like a perfect organization for our first grant, one that is so in keeping with everything my dad stood for as a musician and as a human being," Delp said, "not to mention the Beatles connection, which he would have loved, as well.

"We think it sounds like the perfect way to start giving back in Dad's memory."

The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus is a mobile, professional audio and high-definition video recording studio that provides hands-on experience for students of all ages.

Currently in its 11th year touring the United States and Canada, the mobile studio concept began as an offshoot of the John Lennon songwriting contest, which is dedicated to providing opportunities for professional and amateur songwriters around the world. The bus provides free tours and workshops at schools, retailers, festivals, industry conferences and sometimes tours with headlining artists.

"We're delighted to present a major grant to this fine organization," Faulkner said. "We look forward to supporting students, schools and other music related organizations in the future."

Delp, who took his own life, was well known not only as a gifted singer but also as a quiet, humble humanitarian, according to Faulkner.

"He was particularly generous with his time and talent, playing many benefit concerts each year and otherwise supporting causes that he believed in, such as children's causes, anti-violence organizations, school fundraisers, hunger and shelter programs and others," Faulkner said.
