CHRIS CAFFERY - "If Something Pisses Me Off, Instead Of Being Angry I Just Get Heavy!"
May 10, 2008, 16 years ago
SAVATAGE / TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA guitarist Chris Caffery recently spoke to the Middle East-based online metal source JorZine Magazine. The following is an excerpt from the interview:
JZ: So after the work you’ve done with TSO and Savatage I never would’ve imagined that your solo albums will sound this insane, so what exactly inspired you to start your own band, and which of the 3 masterpiece albums is your favorite?
Caffery: "Hmm...actually my favorite I am working on now! The newest one called House Of Insanity...funny you speak of insane! I am very fond of the WARPED CD. I think that CD is a really cool listen front to back! The inspiration to start my own band came from the lack of activity in Savatage land. I wanted to play and tour but did not want to join another band. I was hoping Savatage would play eventually."
JZ: I just love the amount of hate and aggression both in the music and lyrics, but I just have to ask, what are you so angry about? what inspires you to write such angry lyrics and music?
Caffery: "I think I just bring a lot of frustration out in my writing. It makes me happy to listen to an angry song. Weird huh? It is kinda therapeutic. Always has been. Ever since I was a kid the heaviest songs made me happy. The world is pretty screwed up sometimes, I just write the emotions into my music. If something pisses me off, instead of being angry I just get heavy!!!"
