BLACK SABBATH guitar legend Tony Iommi has written the following tribute to former DEEP PURPLE keyboardist JON LORD, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer at age 71 yesterday, Monday, July 16th:

"I was so shocked and saddened to hear the news of Jon's passing. Jon was not only a magnificent keyboard player and musician but a wonderful human being and a true gentleman.

I'm honoured to have had the opportunity to play together with him. We've lost a true legend but his music will live on in all of our hearts.

My deepest thoughts go out to his family.

R.I.P Jon, my friend."

Jon Lord appeared on the recent WhoCares charity project with Deep Purple's Ian Gillan and Tony Iommi, which benefitted the rebuilding and helping the music school in Gyumari, Armenia. The first single/video (below) was the song 'Out Of My Mind' which also featured IRON MAIDEN drummer Nicko McBrain, ex-METALLICA bassist Jason Newsted and guitarist Mikko Lindström (H.I.M.).
