Influential Welsh heavy rockers Budgie’s 1974–79 period is examined in a new, 400-page book, In Pecking Order: Budgie 1974–79.

During the period, Budgie released In For The Kill (1974) and Bandolier (1975) for MCA, and If I Were Brittania I’d Waive The Rules (1976) and Impeckable (1978) for A&M.;

Van Halen, Metallica and Iron Maiden covered tracks on In For The Kill, released 40 years ago this month, and Bandolier.

The book features interviews with guitarist Tony Bourge (who bowed out after Impeckable), bass player, singer and bandleader Burke Shelley, drummers Pete Boot and Steve Williams, and live guitarist Myf Isaac.

Manager Graham Moloney and Canadian Bob Leth (who engineered Impeckable) add spice and humour to the telling of the story of a period that featured line-up changes aplenty and the spreading of wings into North America.

The book features photos by Ian Dickson, Fin Costello, Andrew Putler, Alan Perry, Phil Neumann and Mike Isaac.

In Pecking Order: 1974–79 can be ordered here.
