CALAMITY Make History Performing On Puerto Rican TV Show; Video
December 14, 2015, 9 years ago
This past Monday (December 9th) Puerto Rico-based thrashers, Calamity, made history for being the first extreme metal band to perform live on a local TV show. The band was featured in a segment of the show Que es lo que hay?
"In the last two years the Puerto Rico metal scene has grown exponentially, there’s a lot of producers, bands and collaborators working together to carry forward the metal movement and export our local talent,” explains Berny Santos (guitar/vocals). ”Extreme metal music doesn’t get much attention in the local press or media. Having this spot on television was an important step for Calamity to take because this can open way for our community to gain exposure at a national and international level."
The song performed in the video is “Homeland Or Death”, from their upcoming album, Imminent Disaster:
Calamity have also released a lyric video for their new single, “Imminent Disaster” (see below). The song is featured on their first studio album, Imminent Disaster, due to be released on December 18th.
The band recently revealed the artwork for Imminent Disaster. The complete visual design was made by artist Kadriel Betsen, who designed the artwork for the recent documentary on the Puerto Rican metal scene, The Distorted Island. Betsen has also collaborated with the legendary bands from the local scene Dantesco and Organic.
“We wanted to transmit our Puerto Rican identity through the artwork and combine it with the traditional aesthetic of thrash metal. Kadriel came up with the right idea to accomplish that and we couldn't be more satisfied,” affirms Berny Santos (Calamity frontman)
Calamity announced their first US tour in December/January with their Puerto Rican companions Zafakon.
"Going on tour with a new album will be the best opportunity we have had so far,” adds Berny. "We estimate more than fifteen shows in different states and the fact that we are going alongside our big bros from Zafakon makes thing a lot more exciting."
