According to Ottawacitizen.com, Matthew De Grood - allegedly responsible for the bloody slaying of five young people that is being called the “worst mass murder in Calgary’s history" - posted the title of a MEGADETH song 'Dread And The Fugitive Mind' and album title, The World Needs a Hero, on his Facebook page prior to the stabbings.
Calgary Police Chief Rick Hanson said charges are pending against the suspect who was an invited guest to a house party, where university students were celebrating the last day of classes. Matthew De Grood is the son of a senior Calgary police officer.
The man arrived at the home, “obtained a large knife” and began attacking individuals one by one.
Four men and a woman were killed — three men were found dead when police arrived, while two others, a man and a woman, succumbed to their injuries in hospital.
According to his Facebook page, de Grood is a 23-year-old University of Calgary student who was recently accepted into the school’s faculty of law for the fall 2014 school year.
The student’s father is veteran Calgary police officer, Insp. Doug de Grood, who has spent more than 30 years with the service and has held several leadership roles.
Around 20 people were in the home for a party celebrating the end of the semester when the stabbings occurred, Hanson said.
