The iconic "dove" image that first introduced the world to the British progressive rock supergroup EMERSON LAKE & PALMER has released a gallery standard fine art print, suitable for framing in the homes of music and art fans around the world.

Now available in a limited hand signed edition of 600 from the official ELP website (Emersonlakepalmer.com), the lithograph recreates this classic album cover in all its colorful glory.

Keith Emerson commented: “I'm extremely proud that the first ELP album cover has been turned into such a high quality fine art print."

The image is particularly iconic amongst album covers through its deeper meaning, as described by Greg Lake: "I have a particular fondness for this painting as to me it represents the dove of peace emerging from a man’s thoughts."

Released in 1970, the debut Emerson Lake & Palmer album has since become a staple of radio stations globally, spawning such hit songs as 'Lucky Man', 'Knife Edge', 'Barbarian' and 'Take A Pebble'. The cover was created by acclaimed British artist, Nic Dartnell, who went on to work with GENESIS, PETER GABRIEL and SPIRIT.

At the time he created the image, Dartnell was an 18 year old art student working in an Edinburgh record store. The shop's owner, Bruce Findlay, recommended his employee's art to executives he knew at Island Records. Having just signed ELP, the record was chosen by the new band as its debut cover. The record went to multi-platinum status.

"I was influenced by the general psychedelia that was happening at the time," says Dartnell, "and the cover art for the bands Quicksilver Messenger Service and Cream strongly influenced my opinion that paintings would look good on record sleeves."

The art print employs the original master transparency for the first time and features the original signatures of Keith Emerson, Greg Lake, Carl Palmer and artist Nic Dartnell.

Image of the album cover is 20.27" X 10.47" and positioned on lithographic paper which is 22.48" x 26.49" in size.

"I am very happy and excited this iconic album cover is finally available as a work of art for our fans to own and appreciate," says ELP drummer Carl Palmer. "When this cover was released it was the dawn of an age where album covers would be viewed as works of art. We were lucky to be part of that."
