JUDAS PRIEST Frontman ROB HALFORD - "We Learned From The Masters In Some Respect"

Judas Priest frontman and metal icon Rob Halford recently spoke with Detroit's  MLive.com about the band's enduring legacy and their latest album, Redeemer Of Souls. An excerpt from the interview is available below:

Some believe heavy metal music is becoming a lost art as the pioneers of the genre of music reach a point where they will eventually pass the torch to newer bands trying to have the same success as the living legends like Judas Priest.

"It's a different landscape today vs. the past. There's only one Iron Maiden, and only one Black Sabbath, of sorts. What we crafted in the 70s and 80s was our feeling. I think it's natural for new metal bands to strive to find their own direction. I personally could look around and see acts like Hendrix, Deep Purple, etc. ... the beginnings of the metal scene, to an extent. We learned from the masters in some respect."

"To me it's always been about quality, not quantity. I'm in this to make quality music that's going to stick, where you can look back 5-10 years from now and say it still sounds pretty darn good. I'm not dismissing the incredible talent out there now. People are in a band to make their dreams come true, and it's really tough."

Speaking about the band’s future, guitarist Richie Faulkner states that the band doesn’t know but he definitely thinks they have enough “creative juices” to do another album, but it could shape out to be a classic Priest record, a story or concept album of sorts, or something else entirely.

On June 25th, Judas Priest performed is Ostrava, Czech Republic at ČEZ Aréna. Fan filmed video from the band's set is available below. Songs featured include:

"Dragonaut"
"Metal Gods"
"Devil's Child"
"Victim Of Changes"
"Halls Of Valhalla"
"March Of The Damned"
"Turbo Lover"
"Beyond The Realms Of Death"
"Painkiller"

Faulkner recently checked in from the road with the following update:

"Some truly iconic metal moments were captured by our Viking maniacs in ‪Sweden‬ last night! Truly humbled and honoured to be a part of this amazing ‪Priest family‬ and the metal monster roller coaster that is ‎Judas Priest‬! Some timeless moments were shared last night. There's nothing quite like seeing the ‪M‎etal God‬ at the end of an ego ramp commanding a Harley, spotlights on him, horns raised and 35,000 amazing metal maniacs as far as the eye can see. Pure metal magic! Photos by @mr_scotttravis @brutalmyth @lundinrasmus @kevin.eriksson.1426."
