Phil Ramone, the music producer and engineer who helmed classic albums by FRANK SINATRA, BARBRA STREISAND, BOB DYLAN, RAY CHARLES, PAUL SIMON, BILLY JOEL and many others over a career that stretched back to the early 1960s, died at age 79 on Saturday, March 30th in a New York hospital.

LIVING COLOUR guitarist Vernon Reid has issued the following statement:

"The passing of Phil Ramone touches me in more than the distantly sad and generic passing-of-a-great; he was an early and consistent supporter of Living Colour early on-he came to many of our club gigs before (THE ROLLING STONES') Mick Jagger was made aware of us. He got what we were doing and really had insight into where we were coming from. He was incredibly encouraging, and was kind and supportive when we decided to go with Mick Jagger and Ed Stasium for the production of Vivid. I ran into Phil after Vivid went gold, and he said 'I told you so,' with that twinkle in his eye that anyone who knew him, knew well. Maximum R.I.P."
