MAX CAVALERA Ordered To Pay $50,000 In Damages To Former Sister-In-Law Over Autobiography Claims

Soulfly’s Max Cavalera (ex-Sepultura) has been ordered to pay $50,000 in damages to former sister-in-law, Monika Bass Cavalera. Monika, who managed Sepultura after Max left the band, filed a lawsuit against the musician over claims in his autobiography, My Bloody Roots, in which he calls her a “bitch".

Payment is set at $ 50,000 by way of moral damages, plus 15% of the amount for legal costs. Monika initially requested an indemnity of $1 million. Both parties have 15 days to appeal the decision of the 25th Civil Court of Sao Paulo.

Monika, however, not yet decided whether to ask the court to change the amount. "The pain and suffering is not measurable. There is no way to quantify the pain and suffering. Therefore we suggest the initial value," says lawyer Mark Grevy. According to him, the first attempt at conciliation was suggested removing the excerpt from the book, but there was no agreement.

The latest episode of Radioactive Metal is now available, featuring an interview with Max Cavalera. Max discusses Soulfly's new Archangel album, back catalogue, some favourite current upcoming artists, and more.

Says Radioactive Metal: “We’re on a roll! We can officially refer to the last month as Legend’s Month around here. We can scratch another one off the ol’ bucket list. Our interest in Max Cavalera goes back for decades now, when the unknown Sepultura released their debut album, Morbid Visions. Since then, Mr. Cavalera has been a major force in the metal underground and beyond. Despite his busy Soulfly schedule, we managed to corral Mad Max long enough to get the 411. We discussed Soulfly’s 10th record, we got to geek out over some of our mutual current fave bands, and we get an update on his cool side projects.

“In our News, Views, and Tunes, we mourn the loss of some fallen comrades. Musically, we crank the Archangel record, some Sepultura, and get into the spirit of the season with some Goblin Rebirth, With The Dead, and Zombi. In our Extended Indie Spotlight, we’re stoked to lend a helping hand to our bros in Untimely Demise.”
