As previously reported, according to Desmoinesregister.com, Urbandale police are investigating the death of SLIPKNOT's bass guitarist at a local hotel. Paul Dedrick Gray, 38, of Johnston was found dead at approximately 10:50 a.m. today by an employee at TownePlace Suites, 8800 Northpark Drive, police said. There was no evidence of foul play, police said, but the investigation is ongoing.

An autopsy is scheduled for today (Tuesday, May 25th). Toxicology tests will be done.

Members of SHADOWS FALL, HATEBREED, and KORN have issued statements on Gray's passing:

Brian Fair (Shadows Fall): "I'm so crushed to hear about the passing of Paul Gray. I had the pleasure of first getting to know him on a press trip to New York City before our tour with Slipknot and LAMB OF GOD in 2005 and then sharing stages and good times with him and the boys around the world. He was a great musician, an underrated songwriter and a truly warm soul underneath the evil mask he rocked onstage. This is a huge loss to the metal world. He will be missed deeply." Chris Beattie (Hatebreed): "It came as a surprise today to hear that Paul Gray passed this morning. He was a great guy and an amazing bass player. I consider it an honor to have gotten to know him. His contribution to the music world was enormous and will live on forever. R.I.P."

Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed): "Paul was a stand-up guy and a great musician. He and SLIPKNOT changed the face of rock music as we know it. Just about every metal band member from 1999 onward owes him a salute. My condolences to his band, family and fans. We'll miss you dearly, Paul. We are eternally grateful to you."
