METALLICA Talk LEMMY Tribute Song "Murder One" From Hardwired... To Self-Destruct - "He Was Unafraid"

Metallica stopped by SiriusXM's New York studios on Monday (September 26th) to answer fan questions for the network's Town Hall segment in anticipation of the November 18th release of the group's Hardwired ... To Self-Destruct LP. The segment won't run in full until November 17th at 5 p.m. EST on the network's "Mandatory Metallica" station (channel 37), but Kory Grow of Rolling Stone sat in and listened; an excerpt follows.

Without Lemmy, there'd be no Metallica.
The Hardwired ... To Self-Destruct track "Murder One" is a tribute to late Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister and uses many of his song titles in the lyrics. The band members said he was a crucial influence on Metallica. "Motörhead had a lot to do with Metallica sitting here right now," Hetfield said. "But just Lemmy as an entity, as kind of a father figure, he helped us a lot. He was unafraid. And he was a character. And he was himself. And we all respected that so much. He did his own thing to the last breath. No matter who you are, how could you not be inspired by that?"

Metallica have released a video for “Moth Into Flame”, a track from their upcoming new studio album, Hardwired…To Self-Destruct.

Says Metallica: “We’re back!! Welcome to track number two from Hardwired…To Self-Destruct, “Moth Into Flame”. As some of you accurately predicted, we gave it the first public spin while hanging out with our great friend Howard Stern this morning in his New York studio. Sitting and chatting with Howard is one our favorite things to do and we were honored that he offered to play it first and let us perform a few additional songs live while we were there. We’re also excited to debut the corresponding video directed by Tom Kirk of Muse fame.

“Just to refresh your memories, Hardwired…To Self-Destruct hits the streets on November 18, 2016 and was produced by Greg Fidelman, along with James and Lars, and is available for pre-order in a variety of configurations including 12 songs on a double CD, vinyl, digital download, as well as a deluxe version including cover songs and live tracks.

“We are just getting started, so keep watching this space for more information, more tour dates and just in general, more Metallica!! IT’S ON!”

Metallica recently announced that Hardwired…To Self-Destruct - which will be released on November 18th - is finally done! A message from the band can be found below.

Says Metallica: “Guess what?!? It’s DONE! We have put the finishing touches on our next album Hardwired…To Self-Destruct and are looking forward to the next phase of unleashing it to the world, waking the monster that is Metallica and hitting the road. As we were in the 11th hour of wrapping it up it dawned on us that we have never shared with you in any sort of cohesive “official” manner the extensive covers we have worked on since Death Magnetic. While digging into the bonus options to compliment the 12-song album with additional material, we realized that none of our versions of these songs from some of our favorite and most respected artists have been readily available on our very own Blackened Recordings. So with that said, we’re here to tell you about some changes we’ve made to the deluxe versions of Hardwired... in place of the previously announced Riff Origins.

“The 2016 version of ‘Lords of Summer’ from the studio in its full glory as originally promised is still included, but now we’ve added the ‘Ronnie Rising Medley’, originally only available only on the Ronnie James Dio – This Is Your Life tribute album, along with the Iron Maiden cover of ‘Remember Tomorrow’ rounded out by Deep Purple’s ‘When A Blind Man Cries’. And by the way all of these tracks have been recently remastered for optimum 2016 sound quality. Just for fun (and because there was room!) the special set we did at Rasputin’s in Berkeley, CA on Record Store Day 2016 to celebrate the reissues of Kill ‘Em All and Ride The Lightning is here all re-mixed and mastered.

“Lastly we had such an amazing time being a part of the first weekend of events ever held at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis last month. It was an honor and a thrill to test out “Hardwired” live there and we just had to commemorate the debut by including the recording from that night here."
