METALLICA's Load Celebrated On InTheStudio; James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett Interviewed

North American syndicated rock radio show InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History’s Greatest Rock Bands goes one on one with Metallica’s James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett for a refreshingly honest interview about Metallica’s highly anticipated 1996 follow-up to the mega-selling Black Album.

"After nearly a decade of hard and fast, Metallica began the ‘90s with what amounted to be their Sgt. Peppers, their Back In Black. Fondly referred to as Metallica’s Black Album, the band experienced a new level of fame, raising the obstinate band’s confidence level to DEFCON 4. So what next?

The highly defiant band had in their own way already made significant steps towards their future, most importantly with the addition of producer Bob Rock for the Black Album. Songs like “Ain’t My Bitch”, “Until It Sleeps”, “King Nothing”, “Hero Of The Day” and “Bleeding Me” had a stronger sonic punch, a broader appeal than their early speed metal. But superstar success made Metallica a big target, and Load was not without controversy.

James Hetfield tells InTheStudio host Redbeard why Metallica has always been able to look past criticism about the group.“We’re not afraid to say we’re selfish. We are here playing this stuff for ourselves, and it’s always been that way...We’re into having the nuts to go try something else.”
