MITCH MALLOY Talks Involvement With VAN HALEN On In-Depth DANKO JONES Podcast Interview - "It's Like A Knighthood; It Gives Me Complete And Total Rock Credibility"

Mitch Malloy, the singer Van Halen auditioned between their stints with Sammy Hagar and Gary Cherone, recently spoke to Toronto rocker Danko Jones about his time as the lead singer of Van Halen and his career in music. Check out the official podcast interview below.

Malloy also chimed in via his official Facebook page here with the following message:

"This is quite possibly the best interview ever done on me. Danko is extremely well spoken and intelligent and interesting. Check this out..."

Malloy recently completed an unreleased demo from his brief stint with Van Halen. Malloy says the track features Eddie Van Halen, Michael Anthony, and Alex Van Halen, called “It’s The Right Time”.

Malloy auditioned for Van Halen by recording a few tracks at 5150 studios with Eddie, Alex, and Michael and his joining VH was overridden by then manager Ray Danniels, who wanted Extreme vocalist Gary Cherone. When Malloy saw Van Halen reunite with David Lee Roth on MTV’s Video Music Awards however, he was done with the band.

“When I saw Dave come out with them,” Malloy said, “that was it for me. It was over. … This can’t work for me.”

The legacy of Van Halen has never had a shortage of drama or die-hard fans...and Malloy has a unique place within the still-unfolding drama. Following the ousting of Sammy Hagar from the band Malloy was tapped as the lead singer replacement, but subsequently declined this rock royalty position. For years Malloy's story was touched on but never fully revealed, mostly by Malloy to avoid conflict with his current musical pursuits. After the publication of Everybody Wants Some: The Van Halen Saga, which mentions Malloy, fans and media continually asked about his Van Halen experience. This is Mitch's story.
