MÖTLEY CRÜE Manager ALLEN KOVAC Talks Comeback Tour - "There's A Demand That We Could See From Data And Streaming"
January 1, 2020, 4 years ago
In a new interview with Forbes, Mötley Crüe manager Allen Kovac - the CEO for Better Noise Music - commented on the band's decision to scrap their "cessation of touring" contract and launch a comeback tour. Following is an excerpt from the story.
“There’s a demand that we could see from data and streaming, where the audience changed and the streaming went up 600% when the film (The Dirt) has stayed up 300%, and will stay there because their followers tripled,” Kovac says. “And that's what you're aiming for. You're aiming for followers. Not quick playlisting or radio airplay.”
Those numbers aren’t too shabby for an indie-label band. Yet Kovac also attributes Mötley Crüe’s enduring success to the band members’ steadfast commitment to being themselves.
“Each guy agreed they wouldn't change anything. People could see behind the curtain of a band dynamic,” he says of the making of The Dirt. “The courage to sit there and show all the things that didn't go right, not just the things that went right—that's the difference between a major label band and an independent band. An independent band is about self-contained music and honesty. A manufactured artist is not self-contained. A manufactured artist isn't being honest. And audiences know those differentiations, especially over time.”
