Original RAINBOW, ELF Bassist Craig Gruber Dead At 63

Bassist Craig Gruber, who was an original member of Ronnie James Dio’s Elf and also recorded with Rainbow, Gary Moore, The Rods and Ozz, has died after a lengthy battle with cancer on May 5th. He was 63.

Gruber also played bass on Black Sabbath's Heaven And Hell album originally when Geezer Butler had left the band. He also claims to have co-wrote many of the songs. Geezer later came back and re-recorded his parts over Craig's.

Craig Gruber’s classic resume includes:

Elf - Carolina County Ball (1974) and Trying to Burn the Sun (1975)

Rainbow - Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow (1975)

Ozz - No Prisoners (1980)

Gary Moore - We Want Moore (1984)

The Rods - Heavier Than Thou (1986)

In 2013, Gruber joined multi-national heavy metal act Raven Lord.
