Guitarist PAUL GILBERT talks about his influences and his latest release in this new interview with Rockpages.gr. Here's an excerpt:

Rockpages.gr: Your latest release, Silence Followed By A Deafening Roar is already out. The DVD, how would you characterize it? Like something new, regarding your playing, innovating?

Paul Gilbert: "It’s a whole new style of music for me. I never wanted to do guitar instrumental music. I grew up listening to rock bands or singers. My heroes were Eddie Van Halen with David Lee Roth, Randy Rhoads with OZZY OSBOURNE or guitarists that sing themselves, like GARY MOORE sung or JIMI HENDRIX sung. I didn’t really listen to that much instrumental music. But I’m a guitar player, I’ve been playing for a long time, so I thought maybe I can try and make an instrumental album and still, somehow, have the energy of a vocal album... without the vocals. That was my goal. I wanted it to be an album that, even though it’s a guitar album, anybody can listen to it, not just guitar players and that was what I tried to do with Get Out Of My Yard, my previous one. But this one... it’s the same kind of philosophy but I think my song writing became more sophisticated and the songs are smarter, the melodies are a lil’ better... There are various styles, there’s one classical piece where I play the flute part on the guitar, it’s very beautiful and there are some heavy things, some progressive rock, funky things, just about everything I can squeeze out of my guitar."
