SLAYER Guitarist KERRY KING On GARY HOLT - "I'd Always Refer To Him As The GLENN TIPTON Of Our Era"

Slayer guitarist Kerry King is featured in a new interview with Asbury Park Press discussing the band's current jaunt on the Mayhem Festival tour and their new album, Repentless. An excerpt is available below:

Q: How has it been, working with Gary (Holt) and doing the two-guitar attack with him now?

King: "Well, Gary, I always looked up to Gary when he was playing in Exodus. I'd always refer to him as the Glenn Tipton (from Judas Priest) of our era as far as guitar playing goes because when people reference guitar players very rarely does anybody reference Glenn Tipton and, as far as metal goes, he's a giant. Of course, people talk about Tony Iommi, but for Glenn Tipton not to be in that same conversation is just a tragedy to me.

I kind of felt that's how Gary Holt was when he was playing in Exodus. He was kind of overlooked. So when we had the opportunity to see if he wanted to play with us, (he was) by far my first choice and, luckily, he was into it."

"“Repentless” is my Jeff tribute," said Slayer's Kerry King. "I call it the 'HannemAnthem’.  It's my perspective of Jeff's perspective, it's what I think... if Jeff wrote a song for himself, “Repentless” would be it."

Arrogance, violence, world in disarray
Dealing with insanity every fuckin' day
I hate the life, hate the fame, hate the fuckin' scene
Pissing match of egos, fuck their vanity
