STEVE VAI will perform the world premiere of composer Ichiro Nodaira's Fire Strings, a concerto for electric guitar and 100-piece orchestra, in Tokyo in July. Steve will perform with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Yutaka Sado, and the concert program includes Leonard Bernstein's ‘Candide Overture’ and Stravinsky's ‘Le Sacre du Printemps’, in addition to the 30-minute ‘Fire Strings’. The guitar parts for ‘Fire Strings’ are very complex - previously described as impossible to play - and Steve calls it the most challenging guitar composition he's seen since his days with FRANK ZAPPA. The venue is the prestigious Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and the dates are July 24th, 25th and 26th. Ticket info is available at: www.vai.com. In related news, Steve’s new album, The Elusive Light And Sound: Volume 1, will be released on June 4th through Favored Nations. The disc was previously available only in the limited edition Vai box set, The Secret Jewel Box. The set includes all of Vai's contributions to film, including the guitar duel scenes from Crossroads (with additional music not included in the film's final cut), the score cues from PCU, several other soundtrack contributions and new, previously unreleased material as well. The US release on Favored Nations will also feature a 3D cover image, and come in a Q-pack. The release date is June 4th.
