TED NUGENT To Headline DAVID ZYCHEK Benefit Jamboree

Waco rock guitarist and studio engineer David Zychek has shared the stage with many a musician over the nearly 40 years that he’s been performing, but on December 4th, it’ll be musicians — some 14 individuals and bands — who’ll be sharing a stage for him, reports WacoTrib.com.

The musicians, headed by veteran rocker Ted Nugent, will join musical forces then for a David Zychek Benefit Jamboree to defray medical costs for the popular Waco musician, whose under- insured bouts with intestinal infections and colon cancer during the last year have left him with a mountain of medical bills.

The eight-hour event, held at Tucker Hall, features some musicians who’ve played with Zychek since his Groove Kings days back in the 1980s to his most recent band, the blues-rock trio the Mojo Assassins. Slated to play are Johnny Joe Ramos, the Gordon Collier Band, Jonna Mae, Towne Adams, Soul Drive, Crash Landing, Touch of Grey and Hourglass as the benefit closer. Longtime Waco rock guitarist, music supporter and Ted Nugent friend Calvin Ross will make a guest appearance, along with Mike Morgan, Paul Brown, the Groove Kings and the Mojo Assassins.

Headlining the talent is Nugent, who is scheduled to perform at 8:40 PM. Nugent also has agreed to an intimate Campfire performance the night before, limited to 20 people at $500 apiece. Nugent will sing, play guitar and tell stories for his small audience around the campfire. After the evening is over, he’ll donate the guitar he used, with it going to the winner of a drawing from among those attending.

“He’s really stepped up to help,” benefit organizer Bruce Byars said.
