TESTAMENT Bassist STEVE DIGIORGIO Talks Working With Former DEATH Bandmates - "We Made Some Real Cool Music In The Past; Twenty Years Later We’re Back Together Jamming Again"

Greece-based Rock Overdose recently caught up with bassist Steve DiGiorgio, who discussed his time with Death and working with Chuck Schuldiner, Testament, Iced Earth, Sadus, the Vivaldi metal project, music in general and more. An excerpt is available below:

Rock Overdose: "You are touring with Death DTA in a couple of weeks. I think it's more like getting back together with some friends of yours, paying tribute to Chuck all together. Am I anywhere near right on that?

Steve DiGiorgio: "You are exactly right. And you know, most people are looking at this from the angle of 'This is real Death? or 'Is it fake Death?' and 'What songs are they playing, new or old?' or 'Are they only playing songs from the albums of the guys in the line up?' There are all these questions, but it’s funny because from the point of view of the four of us in the line-up... I mean, we are really just happy to be making music together again. I mean, Chuck brought us together some twenty years ago and some of us kept in contact with each other, some of us lost contact, but the point is, we made some real cool music in the past and all of a sudden now, twenty years later we’re back together jamming again. So, regardless of the logo and the whole moniker of Death and the idea of it… regardless of all that we are just so psyched to be together on stage playing together again. I mean everybody is really just a master of their own instrument and to come together after all these years is… it’s awesome man!"

Rock Overdose: I know! Who is exactly playing in Death on this tour, the Symbolic tour 2015?

Steve DiGiorgio: "Well it’s primarily people that were involved in the making of Symbolic. So, it’s got Gene (Hoglan) on drums and Bobby (Koelble) on guitar that played on the album, and also I was part of the song writing and preproduction process for that album, so... you know, besides being a close friend of Chuck, I have a tiny stake of claim to the album that we’ll be tributing on this tour. You are getting pretty much the true Symbolic line up. We also have been playing songs from Individual Thought Patterns which really was just me and Gene and Chuck, so you are getting the true Individual line up too. Even though this is kind been built as this big Symbolic anniversary type thing, we have added some stuff from Individual as well."
