UNCURED To Release New EP Spontaneous Generation; MAX PORTNOY Guests
August 10, 2016, 8 years ago
Uncured, a new progressive metal band, is changing everything the industry thought it knew about music. Featuring just three members whose average age is just 17 years old, it's clear from their first EP that these young musicians are already top-level professional players.
Uncured features brothers Rex Cox (age 16) and Zak Cox (age 18) on guitars and bass, and Max Portnoy (age 17) on drums. Max is the son of Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater fame. As one would expect from this pedigree, Uncured's music is tight and technical, yet manages to surprise with unexpected changes and dramatic moments of beauty.
This range of emotion is felt throughout the EP as the band’s bone-crushing riffs seem to flow perfectly with melodic, acoustic passages that have already drawn comparisons to Opeth and BTBAM. Even shreds of old-school Pink Floyd and Hendrix can be heard throughout.
While Spontaneous Generation is an instrumental album, each lick of the guitar and each beat of the drum kit tell a story to the listener. The record moves seamlessly from brutal riffs to ‘70s groove to epic solos in a barrage of musical themes.
All of the members of Uncured have left high school to pursue a full time career in metal. Their dedication shows throughout their EP. Uncured is signed to Conclave Studios and is preparing to start touring nationally later this year.
