In a few day the hearts of the metal world will once again pound in Wacken: From August 1st to 3rd, 75,000 metal heads from all over the globe will gather for the Wacken Open Air being held in Wacken, Germany.

As has been announced, this year a film team including director Norbert Heitker, supervising director of photography / producer Tomas Erhart and several camera units with a total of 18 3D cameras will cover the complete festival event in stereoscopic real 3D images. This footage will be included in a feature documentary film offering viewers the chance to experience the Wacken universe up close – the live experience of the festival with all its atmosphere and its raw power. The release date will be spring 2014.

The audience will get a first impression of Wacken 3D on August 1st: At 9:50 PM a 3D trailer of about seven minutes will be presented on the screens of the WOA main stages – a world premiere witnessed by thousands of Metal fans. During WOA 2012 Tomas Erhart was able to shot test footage in preparation of the elaborate shoot this year. This footage was used in the trailer, setting the mood for the theatrical release next spring.

On August 1st 3D glasses will be distributed at the gates of the WOA main stage, enabling all Wacken attendees to experience the trailer in 3D. The screening of the trailer probably will be presented to one of the largest 3D audiences ever.

Norbert Heitker has many years of experience under his belt, directing music films and commercials. He has won numerous awards and accolades, including two Echo awards for music videos of the bands RAMMSTEIN and DIE ÄRZTE.

Wacken 3D is produced by Tomas Erhart / Jumpseat 3D plus Germany, who is also the director of photography, and Stefan Schubert of Wüste Film. The production is backed by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, Filmförderung Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein, Filmförderungsanstalt and Deutscher Filmförderfonds.
