ANDERS MANGA - Hexed

Ah…Halloween will be rearing its pumpkin head soon and Bloody Hammers frontman Anders Manga has released his retro horror influenced soundtrack album set behind a fake movie entitled Hexed. Manga takes listeners back to the horror movies from the ‘80s with heavy synth work and creepy piano interludes. It’s fun listening to this and imagining what type of scene is playing during this “movie”, like a human sacrifice beginning in “March To The Altar” or the witch casting a curse on an unsuspecting victim in “Seer Lays A Hex” and the sad “Fin” where the title reaches its conclusion and the main character defeats his/her foe, but it’s a bummer because all his/her friends are dead and he’ll/she’ll probably be traumatized for the rest of his/her life.

Taking cues from John Carpenter and the like, images of the slasher classic Halloween pops in mind during the main title theme “Hexed” with the keys sounding similar to the iconic theme song and other cuts will certainly make others think of Friday The 13th, The Thing, and many others during that time period. Though a very niche offering, this is something definitely perfect to pull out for the trick or treaters and also provides a nostalgic trip to those glorious horror flicks of the ‘80s because they certainly don’t make them like they used to.
