 ARCHAGATHUS - Dehumanizer

Winnipeg's Archagathus are Canada's version of Agathocles: they embrace the "mincecore" tag and have a discography of splits and demos that can make your head spin. Your head will spin even harder when you hear Dehumanizer, though: 20 tracks of super fast punk, hardcore, and grind in 21 minutes, song titles like "What The Fuck The System" and "Coconut Bonk" (and the, admittedly, hilarious "Drummer Alcoholic") actually selling the music short here, as is the band's online self-deprecation: cut that shit out and own up to the fact that you are killing it here, guys, the tunes fun and fast but raging hard, ugly, and relentless, all feedback drenched and musicianship just this side of sloppy keeping the energy levels appropriate for this sort of underground wart-removal-procedure soundtrack. With a forward momentum that rivals Benumb and Nasum during the great Relapse grindcore heyday, this one just blazes: sure, it leaves personality or memorable song structures in the dust (both things both those bands had no shortage of), but what remains is a fantastic grindcore record.
