BITTERED - Hubris Aggression

Pennsylvania's Bittered have a good thing going on with their sound, namely their decision to keep the production raw and ragged here, the snare just cracking away, everything blending well with the band's ugly sludge. And this is sludge of a very high quality, the band doing the Eyehategod/Weedeater thing well, a bit less southern, a bit more horrible-doom, with tons of screamed, Dystopia-esque vocal anguish. But for me it's all about the riffs and, again, that drum crack, the beautifully not-triggered snare just hitting the spot so well, bringing the listener into the jam room, with tons of pure energy and emotion all over this thing.

And the band does dynamics well, too: closer "Consumed By Garbage" builds to a wonderful sludge/doom climax, the band really impressing from all angles here. Looking forward to seeing what the future holds (prediction: a bigger metal label sniffing around Bittered's front door). Hard to believe this band only got together last year (although the members are no strangers to extreme metal, having done time in various bands over the years), Bittered displaying an impressive amount of chemistry and cohesion on Hubris Aggression.
