BONEYARD - Fear Of A Zombie Planet

Spain’s Gruesome Stuff Relish have one hell of an awesome name, and they also have a great metal mind in guitarist/vocalist Noel Kemper, who here on the debut of his other band, Boneyard, dishes out, first and foremost, some of the coolest cover art I’ve seen in a while. Seriously, it looks awesome and is just plain exciting to look at when listening to the tunes. Past that wild and fun visual we get a loose and rowdy ride through gore-infused horror death and roll, a fun trip indeed, one made even more fun by a relaxed production sound and concise running time. Things are sometimes blasting but mainly it’s a galloping two-step of a death metal tempo with gore-grind vocals. Musically, think more Abscess than Cannibal Corpse here, the punked-up tempo (which remains almost identical when ‘Under The Streetlight’ ends and the amazingly titled ‘Grind, Death Metal And Beers’ begins… and for that matter, when that tune ends and ‘Lost In The Green Hell’ Begins). The proceedings end off with a cover of gore legends Impetigo’s ‘Boneyard’, these guys paying homage to a band that is clearly a big influence on them, ending off this fun disc with a classy nod to the past.
