BULLET - Storm Of Blades

That's more like it! After securing a “major” label deal with Nuclear Blast, the traditional minded Swedes stumbled a bit on Full Pull. Following a 52-second “The Uprising” intro, the ten proper tracks (if you include the digi-only bonus “Coming In Loud”) live up to the word storm, reminiscent of Heading To The Top and Bite The Bullet: more lively, faster, aggressive, ie a renewed hunger. Like a patch covered denim vest, the AC/DC, by way of classic Accept (“Hammer Down”), underpinning is still worn proudly on their collective sleeves. Rotund, sandpaper parched vocalist Hell Hofer barrels through the lyrics like a man desperate to return to the bar, for another beer. “Riding High” is about as poppy as the album gets, a simply constructed, mid-tempo, repetitive-lyric romp, with an infectious little strum of guitar. Elsewhere, there's the fast stuff: “Hawk Eyes”, “Run With The Hunted” and the title cut, as well guitar dominating “This One's For You” and “It's On”. This ain't shred territory though, more in step with their mentors. Clocking in under 40 minutes, they don't overstay their welcome, also part of the allure. Personally, can never get enough of this style and can't wait to hear these live! Already tight & fast, onstage, it should be even better.
