CORRUPT LEADERS - Grindmother

You have no idea how much I can get behind a four-song, three-minute grindcore 5" EP. And here, man, the crusted-over grind this Windsor, Ontario band are known for is as good as ever, better than ever, faster than ever, more intense, louder, all good things, everything just ramped up. I have no idea what it says about grindcore that somewhere on here we have one of the members' mothers contributing a lark guest vocal and I can't even tell where it is, but what does that matter when a song like "Drained" is about as awesome a 50-second blackened grind-crust song you'll hear all year (and it might have the 66-year-old Mama Grind on it, for all I know)?

Man, I like this one, a lot, the band popping up out of where they were before (good but average crust/grind) and into a much more preferable place (fun, powerful grinding with a bit of crust overtones). Debut full-length soon, and I'm excited for it, even if a three-minute EP is actually kinda the best format for music of this intensity sometimes. (Update: Mama Grind is singing on the first song; nope, still can't tell. Awesome.)
