CRUCIFIED BARBARA - In The Red

Swedish all-female hard rock quartet, Crucified Barbara, has unleashed its fourth full-length album, In The Red. Its 11 tracks are packed with raucous riffs and well-placed melodies. With a sleazy swagger and a punk rock attitude, these gals are proving themselves with each release. From the rowdy opening salvo, “I Sell My Kids For Rock ’N’ Roll,” to the melodic stylings of “The Ghost Inside,” the girls fire away admirably, recalling bands such as Sister Sin and Drain STH. The driving rhythm and catchy chorus of “Don’t Call On Me” screams Guns N’ Roses meets Girlschool. On “To Kill A Man,” the girls take on a more serious subject matter; rape. It’s a heavy song, with a heavy attitude to boot. “Electric Sky” is a hard-driving, mid-paced rocker with a catchy, sing-along chorus that stays in your brain long after the song has ended. In fact, almost every track is equipped with a hooky chorus that successfully reels you in. Vocalist/guitarist Mia Coldheart’s raspy and fiery vocals gives the songs a unique touch while the rest of the band, bassist Ida Evileye, guitarist Klara Force and drummer Nicki Wicked, throw in their two cents worth. The band’s three-part vocal harmonies, especially on the choruses, are huge and powerful. On In The Red, Crucified Barbara nearly hits the bull’s eye.
