DEADLINE - Fire Inside

This album makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. With a spray of bullets on the cover art with a lipstick tinted bullet as the last standing; French hard rockers Deadline deliver deadly kisses with a strong meat and potatoes rock ‘n’ roll. The lyrical themes don’t go around the usual carousel of sex and rocking out though, although they are present like “Rock You” and “Teach Me Love”. The best of the bunch is “The Maverick”, which possesses a strong, slick, in-your-face guitar riff and is filled with gallons of attitude. “Like An Old Man” brings forth a funky bass groove and it’s easy to start jigging to this one. Arnaud Restoueix’s vocals are nasally and may take some time to get comfortable with, but overall he offers a performance full of vigor and that goes for the whole band as well. Deadline could use some help in the ballad department as both “October” and “Broken Parts” go for a melancholic atmosphere, but overall they just fall flat. However, on the whole front, Fire Inside keeps the flames of rock ‘n’ roll alive and there is no reason to think these guys won’t get better.
