DEATHINITION/TERRIFIER - Art Of Manipulation/Metal Or Death

Here's a split cassette with two thrash bands: one from Poland, one from Vancouver. Totally not something I thought I'd end up listening to today, but there you have it, and this 28-minute rager indeed rages pretty hard, Poland's Deathinition starting things off with a very solid Bay Area thrash attack, the band hitting a pretty firm nail on Forbidden's head with their sound, as far as the music goes; the vocals are a sort of charming odd duck out, heavily accented or just marble-mouthed, making for a nice unique sound.

I dig their four tunes, and I definitely dig Terrifier's three, and although I'm tempted to say these are two of the most difficult and downright unlovable band names I've heard in a while (what are the chances they conspire here on a split?), I'll ignore it and let Terrifier's Mustaine-influenced machine-gun thrash impress me instead. Worried for a second it was going to be bar-band Pantera groove, but the band comes through with some admirable Big Four late-'80s thrash, a great compliment to Deathinition's tunes. It's funny: we lived through the whole thrash revival but I never really heard two bands sound quite like these two do, which means both are on to something.
