ETERKNIGHT - Winter's Calling EP

Four songs from heretofore unknown Mexican band that straddles several different genres: power metal, speedy atmospheric/melodic death metal, sort of Amon Amarth meets Wintersun. On their only other release, 2014 demo, they even covered Ensiferum Actually, after an untitled windswept intro, there are but three proper songs (lasting a few seconds short of 13 minutes, total): the superior “Warheart”, “Immortal Dragons” and “Winter's Heeding”.

The keyboard begun “Immortal Dragons” is less convincing, a more gritty voice (think Alestorm), alternating with accented clean vocals. The finale opens with a bit of acoustic guitar, before settling into a more majestic, folk tinged number not unlike the Finnish outfit they've previously covered. Not a whole lot to go on, but if an eventual full-length can concentrate on the likes of the bookending proper tracks, then Eterknight will warrant further investigation.
