FUCKING INVINCIBLE - I Hate Myself And Want You To Die

I'm fully maximizing my hourly wage here, signing up to review this disc from Fucking Invincible then realizing after the fact that it's a mere seven minutes long. As a big proponent of the EP format, I can safely give that two horns up right off the bat. The ugly, raw production gets another black-tooth grin from me, and the grinding hardcore also treats me right, this band coming across pissed off, aggressive, and noisy in all the best ways. The vibe is definitely one of all-ages hardcore shows back in the '00s, the noisy band rolling through town to totally decimate everyone in sight with an 11-minute set, the sounds sludgey at times, frantic at others, end result somewhere between Dropdead and Cursed, although lacking the catchiness that both those great bands always managed to have in their particular forms of aggression.

Still, I love it, tunes such as “Like A Child” galloping along at a perfect tempo to get my blood racing, and, again, that nasty production totally hitting the spot just right. Good stuff, and the best part of all this is that most of these songs end up at a place that approximates power violence, which I can always support. And I'm glad it's not an album: this is a perfect dosage of music like this, just enough to give me a bit more energy to make it through the final stretch of another day. (Update: looks like my Dropdead reference was spot on, as this band features a former Dropdead dude in it. Bam! I win, for once.)
