GOD DETHRONED - The Toxic Touch

(Metal Blade)
Are there any God Dethroned fans out there? Like, people who eagerly await a new album? Because everyone I know likes ‘em, bangs the head to ‘em, enjoys the latest disc once but then files it away until the Netherlands-based band come back with another a couple years later. Something about their solid approach to thrash/death is just so likable and so forgettable. But damned if they don’t have more life to them than The Haunted do (but less experimentation), a more cohesive sound than Entombed (but less life), and more energy than any current death metal band (who are generally way too cohesive, in a blinders-on kinda way). But I’d still reach for ye olde Entombed or The Haunted discs before my God Dethroned ones, which tend to unjustly collect dust. I’ll work on that (these guys deserve it), and in the meantime you can work on bending yer ears to this album’s awesome ‘Hating Life’ (not a Grave cover) (I know, I know) and ‘2014’, as good an album-opening one-two sucker punch as you’re gonna hear this year. It’s damn good, but like I say, this band’s got some kinda curse over them that just makes them so… who was I talking about again? I dunno, but how about that new Entombed EP?
